Many hidden mysteries
in her life. She was a wonderful person to work with, partly because
there was so much going on, but only vague glances in were allowed.
I always felt that "Celebrate" was a sarcastic question, not a statement
of condition. She is not a formal participant in the project because
it didn't exist at the time this was taken (mid-1970s). But Gina
was an early inspiration to the need to have a visual way of capturing
the worlds of women of all ages. It is because of women like Gina
that the commitment for this project exists.
The conflict between the shaded, obscured, dark
young woman and the polished, cheery, high school senior portrait
has always intrigued me. The woman that is standing is far more
interesting, challenging, real, and inspiring than the young lady
in the ornate gold frame.
